EXTENDED CARE PROGRAM
2010 - 2011
Before School Care
After School Care
Short Term Care
Age Groupings
Toronto Montessori Schools (TMS) is committed to providing students with an opportunity to begin and end their day in a safe, secure, nurturing environment designed specifically to meet their needs.
The Extended Care Program
is under the direction of the Manager of Extended Care who is a qualified Montessori teacher. The students are supervised by TMS trained staff. The climate of the program is work-oriented but relaxed and pleasant. Our activity-based and life-skill based program adheres to the Montessori philosophy and practices with a strong focus on student behaviour. We take every step to understand a child’s temperament, interests, learning styles, and interaction with other children. A repertoire of many purposeful activities includes:
· Supervised Elementary Homework Period
· Silent Reading and Quiet Time
· Arts and Crafts
· Circle Time and Dance
· Music and Movies
· Games and Physical Activities
Safety and Security
The safety and security of students is paramount at TMS. We ask that you advise us, in advance, of any allergies, health concerns, persons authorized to pick up your child from school and names of persons to contact in case of an emergency, in writing, prior to the start of the student’s participation in the Program. In the event of a change in your child’s health or regular pick-up procedures, we require written notification to the attention of the Manager or by telephone at the published “after hours” telephone number.
Safety and security of students in the Program is also dependent on the number of students in each grouping. We are committed to maintaining numbers that ensure participating students receive quality care. We ask that you complete an Enrolment Form together with a postdated cheque dated September 1, 2010 and submit them to the Manager’s attention at the main office on or before June 1, 2010 so that we can reserve a place for your child and plan staffing accordingly. If you anticipate using the Program on an occasional basis, Enrolment Forms are required for these students as well.
Emergency Use
If you find a need to use the Program when you had not planned to do so, please be assured that we will welcome your child. Please call the main office prior to 3:00 pm, if possible.
Code of Behaviour
We show our respect for others by maintaining an attractive and orderly environment, being respectful of others’ belongings, working with a spirit of cooperation and consideration, and being honest and courteous at all times. The Manager of Extended Care will contact parents should a student consistently disregard these guidelines for acceptable behaviour. Withdrawal from the Program for the student may be the end result.
